I used to do sharpshooting, clay pigeon, heavy calibre and revolver shooting as a hobby. For 20 years
I was at the top. Yearly I shoot competitions in Bisley England.
One of my shooting friends had a shop in antique and modern weapons. Because I wanted to orientate in this kind of business,
I first started helping my friend restoring modern and antique guns.
I often visited the IWA, buying weapons for the store. There I also had my first experience with the world of knives.
I was so fascinated, that I started to developed a deep passion for the design and technique of handmade knives. I took an education course
in Berlin, to learn how to polish several kinds of steel. I started
buying equipment and expanding
my knowledge, learning everything
I had to know about knives.
After a long period of study, experimentation and development,
I was ready to start making knives
on my own.
And so, many years later, this is
what I still do, with heart and soul. Creating timeless, exclusive custom knives.
-please see my blog for upcoming shows.
My name is Aad van Ryswyk,
a custom knife maker since 1990.
I was born and raised in the Netherlands, and I live with my
wife in a small fisher town called 'Vlaardingen’. This is nearby Rotterdam, the biggest main port
in the world.
I am specialized in making interframe and Liner Lock folders, which is my passion. But I also do special designs like couverts. The engraved pieces are all collector's items, just one of a kind. No knife leaves my workshop without a personal touch.
I always try to distinguish myself by using top quality materials. I prefer to work with ATS 34 steel and various patterns of Damascus steel. This in combination with materials like ancient ivory, precious stones and exclusive kinds of woods.
